STEELERS, singing, and scripting
How bout them Steelers!!! I got to watch the first 3 quarters live, but then had to get on the road back to the Mount for choral practice. Lucky for me, I have SIRIUS! So I put on channel 125 and listened to the game during the drive. It was about 5 til 6 and there was still 6 minutes left in the game. I couldn't stay in the car any longer, I had to go in for practice... crap! So I went inside, got hugs from everyone, and milled around. People started getting text messages when the score went to 34 to 17. We knew then it was Super Bowl time!So about the singing... I am one of many singing Beethoven's 9th Symphony in Altoona. We had our first practice tonight. It's going to be rough. It's all in German. Now, I've sung my share of German pieces, but nothing like this. Fast tempos and lots of hard-to-pronounce words fill the 60 page score. Yup, that's right, 60 pages. And that's just the singing part. The whole concert will be the entire symphony. We come in for the last 15 minutes. It's going to be fun though. I've always wanted to sing with an orchestra behind me. Even though the orchestra isn't just for me, it will feel that way. Hopefully all of the solo parts aren't taken by the Soto Voce singers. They're the chorus in Altoona that is also singing this. I ordered the rehearsal CD so that I can practice my part with all of the other parts. Maybe it'll help.
So after rehearsal I came back home, helped my sister putting photos onto her iPod, and watched the last quarter of the Steeler game. I had it TiVO'd. I'm glad I watched it, Ben had a nice run for a TD at the end.
I had some free time this weekend, so yesterday I wrote a VBScript to change TCP/IP settings for the upcoming changes we need to do at work. Tonight I finished it by adding logging to a text file. Not a lot of work, only about 3 hours, but it's something that will save us many, many hours had we had to do that by hand.
