Finally 21!
Wednesday, May 18, I turned 21. Since it was a work day, we decided to go to happy hour at Chili's after work. I had no clue what to get, so I started with a Yuengling. Later on Shalyn bought some Kamakaze's for us. That was pretty good. I was rather impressed. Then came Friday... Ryan and I went to State College with Tyne to watch her and her band (Tyne and the Fastlyne) play at the Phyrst. I didn't know exactly what to expect; what type of music they played. As it turns out, they play a mix of folk and blues. It was rather great. The only problem being that when people look at me, they don't think I'm having fun. I tend to show little to no emotion. But actually, I had a lot of fun. For me, there are two types of music. There is the kind that you just listen to, you know the words, and you sing along. Then there is impressive music. Impressive music makes me pay attention. I was watching the fingers on the guitar player during his solos and Tyne's fingers during hers. It looks like I hate what I'm hearing, but really I'm paying so much attention to _how_ they are playing I forget to show emotion. Oh well...
The next day, Saturday, was a surprise graduation party for Eric. We kept this a secret for over a month and a half! It was at the Boulevard Grill in Johnstown. I was surpsied how many people were there. Judging by the e-mail Jim sent out, I thought it was just going to be some people from work. Turns out, LOTS of friends, family, and co-workers were there. Even his family came up from Florida specifically for this. I didn't know he had a brother and sister... His reaction was great, though. That was the first time I've ever seen him speechless. Seriously. I started out that night around 6:30 with a Long Island Iced Tea. Did you know there isn't any Iced Tea in those? Anyway, this was a really, really strong one. Watching the bartender pour it, it was 3/4 alcohol, a squirt of 7-up and a squirt of Coke. That gave me a little buzz (I didn't eat anything all day). I waited for that to wear off before I had something else. By the recommendation of Shalyn, who I later found out had never drank this before, I had a New Castle beer. That beer is a few little steps below Guinness on the bitter aftertaste scale. I think that Yuengling is as dark as I'm willing to go.
